BETA Technologies Geofield and Aircraft Assembly Facility

Cx Associates is proud to have collaborated with BETA Technologies to further their mission to develop zero-emissions electric aircraft. Our comprehensive services supported BETA's sustainability goals and growing business needs across three key areas:

  • Ground Source Heat Pump Bore Field Quality Assurance/Quality Control
  • Building Systems and Envelope Commissioning
  • HVAC Controls Design Consultation

GROUND SOURCE HEAT PUMP BORE FIELD QA/QC

In partnership with PC Construction, Cx Associates oversaw the installation of an extensive ground source heat pump system, comprising:

  • 256 individual 400-foot-deep wells
  • Underground piping and associated trenching
  • Manifold vault installation
  • Thermal conductivity and pressure testing

Cx Associates developed the final bore field layout, conducted thorough inspections and documentation of the entire installation and startup process, and verified precise as-built documentation for all system components resulting in a robust, efficient system with enhanced longevity and reduced potential for issues or failures.

AIRCRAFT ASSEMBLY FACILITY

For BETA's new 188,500 SF high bay facility, Cx Associates performed comprehensive MEP and building envelope commissioning. The state-of-the-art facility includes aircraft assembly space, office areas, and operational spaces. The facility is designed to support manufacturing and assembly of BETA's first all-electric aircraft, ALIA, and features zero fossil fuel operations. Our commissioning process involved rigorous design reviews resulting in over 100 resolved comments prior to construction completion and extensive involvement in HVAC controls development, including in-depth review and sequence of operation refinement. As the owner's technical representative, Cx Associates played a crucial role in developing and finalizing the HVAC controls design. We worked closely with both design and construction teams to ensure optimal system performance.

Through these integrated services, Cx Associates has helped create a facility that will operate efficiently, effectively, and sustainably for years to come, supporting BETA Technologies' innovative work in zero-emissions aviation.

Fletcher Allen Health Care Radiation Oncology Suite

Fletcher Allen Health Care dedicated its new Radiation Oncology Suite on August 21, 2010. The $19 million, 23,000-square-foot facility embeds state of the art technology — two new linear accelerators with up to 18 million electron volts of potential — in a soothing, patient-centered environment. It also pursues LEED Silver certification. Built into a hillside to reduce the need for heating and cooling year-round, the Radiation Oncology Suite features a "green" roof with a vegetable garden and plantings to reduce heat build-up and storm water run-off. Natural light filtered through skylights saves on energy costs and provides patients with a sense of connection to the outdoors. The project includes efficient lighting, heating and cooling systems that reduce energy consumption by 20%, as well as water efficient plumbing fixtures.
